Powering Argentina with renewable wind energy

Project Overview

Argentina is home to significant wind resources, particularly in the southern regions of the country. However, the national grid still relies heavily on thermal power generation, which is primarily fossil-fuel based, and often operates near full capacity, risking power interruptions.

Solution Description

The project will install 71 wind turbines provided by Vestas and Nordex, with a total installed capacity of 223.38 MW. The electricity generated will be distributed to the Argentine national grid (SADI), helping to reduce fossil fuel-based power generation and associated greenhouse gas emissions.

Sustainable Development Goals

7 - Affordable and Clean Energy

900,000 MWh

of clean and renewable electricity generated on average each year

8 - Decent Work and Economic Growth

Employment opportunities

created during the construction and operation

9 - Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure

71 wind turbines

will produce renewable energy

13 - Climate Action

384,000 tonnes of CO2e

mitigated on average each year

Impact

The energy produced by the wind farms will displace fossil-fuel-based power generation, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The project will contribute to improving the country's energy security, diversify energy sources, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and stimulate long-term growth in the renewable energy sector.
