Increasing energy output while decreasing emissions and dealing with the country’s growing stream of waste are huge and complex challenges for China. Over the past decades, the volume of waste generated in the country has been continuously increasing. This waste, when left out in the open, produces harmful methane emissions.
This project located in Xingning District, Nanning City aims to deal with China’s waste and emission issues by capturing methane released by landfill waste and converting it into renewable electricity. The energy produced is transferred to the South China grid, powering homes and businesses throughout the region. Additionally, the project endeavours to replace energy that would otherwise have been generated by fossil fuels, reducing emissions from multiple angles.
From an environmental perspective, the project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from both dumped waste and the burning of fossil fuels. It aims to mitigate approximately 231,811 tCO2e annually. From a socio-economic perspective, the project aspires to promote innovative solutions for managing waste emissions while simultaneously supporting the growth of the sustainable job sector.
